There are some stadiums that have not yet been completed. Architects of fame all over the world were responsible for the stadiums’ one-of-a-kind designs. All of these stadiums not only capture the essence of Qatari culture, but they are also easily accessible, comfortable, and environmentally friendly, and they will leave a great legacy for the people of Qatar.

In the following posts, we will take a more in-depth look at several of the World Cup 2022 stadiums that were constructed from the ground up. Today, we will be concentrating on the stadium situated in one of the hosting cities, Al Wakrah.

About Al Wakrah Stadium

Al Wakrah Stadium, which will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was conceived by the late Zaha Hadid, was just opened to the public in Qatar. On May 16, 2019, the venue played host to the Amir Cup Final. According to reports from the local officials, all 40,000 available seats inside the stadium were purchased for the event.

The facility, which will hold games all the way up through the quarter final stage of the soccer event, was introduced to the public for the very first time in 2013, and construction on it began the following year.

The venue, which was built by Zaha Hadid and is situated in one of the parts of Qatar that have been continually inhabited for the longest period of time, has been referred to as an “extraordinary” arena for an exciting city.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, which is the organization in charge of providing the ballparks and facilities for the World Cup, also promises that backers will also find so much to do before and after matches.

These activities include things like taking a stroll along the waterfront, shopping for one-of-a-kind local wares at the Souq, and learning about the area’s rich history at a museum.

Concept and Design

Because the roof of the stadium is completely retractable, it may be utilized during the entire year. It also has equipment that can cool the spectator areas down to 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit) and the playing field down to 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).

Due to the modular nature of the building, the capacity of the stadium will be decreased to 20,000 seats following the conclusion of the World Cup, and any unused tickets will be given to sporting organizations in other countries. After that, Al-Wakrah Sports Club will call the stadium their home field when they join the league.

The design, conceived by Zaha Hadid, takes its cue from the sails of ancient dhow boats and seeks to draw attention to the region’s traditional occupations, such as fishing and pearling. The sight from inside the arena is just as breathtaking as the view outside.

The ceiling of the stadium is supported by bowed beams that resemble the hull of a ship, and these beams allow light to enter the arena.

This stadium in the southern city of Al Wakrah, which has a capacity of 40,000 and is also referred to as the Al Janoub Stadium, made its debut on May 16, 2019, when it hosted the final of the Amir Cup.

It is a component of a larger sports complex that also includes equestrian and cycling paths, as well as stores, restaurants, and athletic clubs.

Following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup, the number of seats in the stadium will be decreased to 20,000, which will ensure that their matches in the Qatar Stars League have an exciting atmosphere.

It is not only tourists from other countries that are able to appreciate the beauty of this location. A number of new amenities, including a school, a wedding hall, cycling, horse riding, and jogging tracks, restaurants, marketplaces, gyms, and parkland, are currently in the process of being constructed in close proximity to Al Janoub Stadium.

The residents will reap significant long-term advantages from the initiative, which will also serve to further strengthen the cohesiveness of their already strong community.
