The stadium, located on the outskirts of Doha, Qatar, has hosted international events since it launched in 1976 and has undergone numerous modifications throughout the years, the most recent of which was in 2017. It was the site of six 2011 AFC Asian Cup games, including the championship game won by Japan with a 1-0 victory over Australia. The 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final, won by Liverpool of England after extra time against Flamengo of Brazil, was also played there.
