Tips
Croatia
Croatia, who finished second at the 2018 World Cup, has struggled thus far in this tournament but has somehow squeaked by with one win in regulation time and three draws out of their four matches. They overcame Japan on penalties to get to the quarterfinals.
However, Luka Modric & Co. have been a tough nut to crack since the beginning of the 2018 tournament, losing just the 2018 final against France.
Croatia’s fullback Josip Stanisic missed Croatia’s Round of 16 victory over Japan due to a muscular ailment. Josip Juranovic came in, played the entire game, and did an outstanding job. Also missing that game due to sickness was Borna Sosa, his fullback counterpart, who was replaced by Borna Barisic; however, Sosa is expected to make a speedy recovery.
Brazil
Brazil will play Croatia in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar hoping to reverse their recent form. The Selecao have been eliminated from the World Cup at the quarterfinal stage on three of the last four occasions, most recently in 2018 against Belgium.
Neymar, who returned to action in the Round of 16 victory over South Korea after recovering from an ankle injury, will feel confident about his team’s chances. Since Neymar played for Barcelona, he and Modric are El Clasico rivals.
Brazilians are concerned about a number of injuries. Alex Sandro is aiming to recover from a hip injury that forced him to miss the Round of 16 triumph over South Korea; Eder Militao stepped in at right back in that game. Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles are out of the competition after getting hurt in the last group stage game against Cameroon.
Netherlands
The Dutch are a formidable opponent, undefeated in their last 19 games during manager Louis van Gaal’s current tenure. Aside from Giorginio Wijnaldum, who had to withdraw from the event because of a broken leg, the Netherlands have no injury concerns as they go to the quarterfinals, which is a huge boost for the team.
Their primary goal-scoring threats in this tournament have been Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo, who have combined for four of their eight goals in the 2022 World Cup. Steven Bergwijn’s presence has been crucial in the fourth quarter, although Vincent Janssen and Wout Weghorst are still looking for their first contributions.
Most likely to receive a yellow card for the Dutch is Jurrian Timber, who will be matched up against Messi on the wing, while Enzo Fernandez, who could be called upon to stop counter attacks for the Albiceleste from the middle, is a potential target for the visitors.
Argentina
Argentina is favored because of Lionel Messi, but the Netherlands has a chance to pull off an upset. Messi has high expectations for this year’s event, but he’ll have to overcome a formidable Dutch team that is currently 19-0 in all competitions and 11-0 in the World Cup to even have a chance.
Angel Di Maria missed the Round of 16 encounter against Australia due to a thigh injury, and his participation in this game is in serious doubt. No one knows whether Ángel Correa will replace him on the bench or whether he will start. We’ll just have to wait and see at our World Cup 2022 livestream to find out.
Predictions
The oddsmakers see Brazil as a heavy World Cup betting odds 2022 favorite, despite the team’s lackluster play so far in the tournament. Meanwhile, Brazil’s dominating victory over South Korea silenced any remaining questions about the team’s potential in Qatar.
Defense-wise, Croatia is top-notch, but they can’t withstand Brazil’s relentless onslaught forever. The Selecao should win by at least two goals, and if they don’t, it will be worrying heading into the semifinals against far more talented teams.
In a matchup against the Netherlands, Argentina is favored despite the fact that they have failed to impress at any stage in the tournament. Other favorites, such as France, Brazil, and Portugal, have been more consistent in their dominance. Here at WorldCup22, we think that goals will be extremely hard to come by in this matchup.
While the Dutch have been deadly in front of goal, they aren’t creating a ton of opportunities themselves, and Argentina have allowed the fewest predicted goals of any team participating in the tournament so far. To put it bluntly, Argentina has drawn a bad draw since they are not an overpowering offensive squad and can be stopped by a daring defense. Our most recent set of World Cup picks and predictions, covering the first games in the World Cup 2022 Quarter-finals, is now complete.
