Even though this is their debut World Cup appearance, they have played in a number of competitive games in recent years.

They won 7 of 8 games in AFC Cup qualifying to finish first in their group and secure a spot in the tournament in January. They also made their way through to the Gold Cup Semi-Finals last summer and the Arab Cup Finals in the winter, but their best possible outcome would have been to come out on top at the Asian Cup in 2019 by a score of 3-1 over Japan.

They also participated in the Copa America that year, when they earned a score of a 2-2 draw against Paraguay but lost to Columbia and Argentina, respectively.

Key Player: Almoez Ali (Al Duhail)

Almoez Ali, now 26 years old, needs only six more goals to surpass all previous national team scorers. He set a new record with nine goals during Qatar's 2019 Asian Cup run, and he added four more to win the 2021 Gold Cup's Golden Boot.

He scores a goal just about every match for Qatar, so his form is crucial if they want to advance out of Group A.
