For the eighth time in a row, Mexico will be competing in the World Cup after finishing in second place in qualifying, tied for points with first-place Canada. Mexico has been eliminated in the Round of 16 in each of the last seven tournaments they have participated in.
They will be looking to advance one round further this time around. Mexico lost the CONCACAF Gold Cup final to the United States in overtime last summer, so it's clear that their major disadvantage will be upfront in this tournament.
In qualifying, they only managed to score an average of 1.2 goals per game, with their top scorer finishing with a total of 3.
Key Player: Raul Jimenez (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
In his tip-top shape, Jimenez is a deadly Premier League striker and will be Mexico's primary goal threat this season. The 31-year-old is already one of his nation's top 10 all-time scorers, and he led all scorers with three goals in nine attempts during qualifying to earn that title.
